Descripción

The Canada Tax Content team is looking for a highly motivated, innovative Staff Software Developer to help build and maintain Canada's leading tax products. You'll work with a diverse team that's transforming how thousands of accountants and consumers manage their clients' finances and prepare taxes — sitting at the intersection of software engineering, tax content, and quality engineering. You'll interpret CRA and provincial tax compliance requirements, build the software that implements them, and own the testing that keeps it accurate.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical vision and strategy for the Canada tax content domain you're responsible for — leading technical design across professional and consumer tax software (C#/Java), balancing tradeoffs, and ensuring long-term maintainability, modularity, and AI-assisted iteration.

  • Lead complex, ambiguous initiatives end-to-end: research and interpret advanced-complexity tax law, translate it into production-quality code, and anticipate/manage risk from team dependencies, cross-system interactions, and poorly defined requirements.

  • Own quality end-to-end: design test strategies, build and maintain automated test/regression suites, drive down defect escape rate, and lead peer and code reviews across the team.

  • Establish technical and tax-content standards and best practices, documenting them so they're broadly adopted and properly applied across the team.

  • Drive strategically significant, innovative solutions to tax-related problems and compliance challenges, anticipating upcoming tax law changes and their business impact.

  • Champion AI-assisted and AI-augmented workflows — using AI tools to accelerate your own development and testing, and leading the team's adoption of automated test generation, compliance mapping, and guardrails for AI-generated code.

  • Act as the connective tissue between tax content, product, and engineering: frame compliance and customer problems, own solutions end-to-end, and drive measurable customer and business impact.

  • Remove technical, tax, prioritization, or process barriers blocking the team, adjusting standards to the tax content lifecycle (e.g., tax season timelines) and resolving cross-team dependencies.

  • Mentor and coach engineers and Tax Analyst Programmers at all levels, including Senior engineers; raise the team's technical and tax-domain bar; maintain a strong talent pipeline and participate in calibrations and assessments.

  • Coordinate and prioritize work across the team using Agile/SCRUM methodologies, encouraging boundaryless contributions and collaboration with cross-functional partners.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Computer Science and/or Tax + equivalent work experience.

  • 5+ years of experience analyzing, interpreting, or coding tax law and compliance requirements.

  • 7+ years developing enterprise software in C# and/or Java, including object-oriented design and web services development.

  • Ability to communicate technical information and complex tax issues clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Self-starter with a helpful, can-do attitude and willingness to take ownership of problems; quick learner; excellent analytical, problem-solving, and partnership skills.

  • Track record of leading complex, ambiguous, cross-team technical initiatives to completion, and holding partner teams accountable for operational excellence.

  • Experience coaching and providing actionable feedback to Senior-level engineers, not just early-career engineers.

  • Comfort evaluating and orchestrating AI/agentic tooling as part of technical solutions — e.g., structuring codebases for AI-assisted iteration and applying oversight/guardrails to ensure the quality of AI-generated code.

  • Demonstrated expert understanding of, and advocacy for, software best practices, agile development, and operational excellence.
