Position Overview

The Forma Data Delivery group at Autodesk is looking for a Senior Software Developer to help build reliable, scalable data products and platform capabilities for the construction industry. We are looking for a hands-on developer with strong backend engineering fundamentals, thoughtful API design skills, and experience building production-grade cloud services.

A key focus of this role will be designing, building, and owning a new Analytics Data API that provides consistent, reliable access to analytics data and capabilities across Autodesk products. You will work at the intersection of backend services, platform engineering, and data systems, collaborating across product, design, and engineering to define service boundaries, API contracts, data access patterns, and the foundations required to operate these systems at scale.

As a senior developer, you will own meaningful technical work, contribute to design decisions, mentor other developers through code reviews and technical guidance, and partner with senior technical leaders on architecture where appropriate. You are expected to work autonomously within your team scope while clearly communicating risks, tradeoffs, and cross-team dependencies.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, deploy, and operate scalable backend services and APIs in a cloud environment

  • Design and evolve clear, consistent APIs with attention to usability, compatibility, security, performance, and maintainability

  • Own services throughout their lifecycle, including implementation, deployment, observability, incident response, and operational improvement

  • Contribute to the design of distributed and data-intensive systems, including service boundaries and integration patterns, with attention to scalability, reliability, security, and cost

  • Diagnose and improve system performance, reliability, and scalability across application, API, database, and infrastructure layers

  • Collaborate with product owners, architects, data engineers, frontend engineers, and other platform consumers to clarify requirements and deliver incremental value

  • Improve team engineering standards, documentation, and operational practices, and mentor less-experienced engineers through pairing and code reviews

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional software development experience, including hands-on experience building backend services, distributed systems, or cloud platforms

  • Strong programming skills in one or more modern backend languages such as TypeScript/JavaScript, Go, Java, Kotlin, Rust, Python, C#, or similar

  • Strong experience designing, building, and operating production HTTP APIs, with a good understanding of API contracts, compatibility, authentication and authorization, error handling, and API evolution

  • Experience building systems that interact with relational and/or non-relational databases, including data modeling, query patterns, and performance considerations

  • Understanding of distributed systems and resilient service patterns such as asynchronous processing, messaging, retries, idempotency, caching, and failure handling

  • Experience operating production services using practices such as logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, and alerting

  • Experience with modern software engineering practices, including automated testing, code review, and CI/CD

  • Ability to break down ambiguous requirements, propose pragmatic solutions, and independently deliver meaningful technical work within a team roadmap

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain technical designs and tradeoffs to engineering and product partners

  • Self-motivated, empathetic, accountable, and biased toward ownership and continuous improvement

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with TypeScript/JavaScript and the Node.js ecosystem

  • Experience building APIs or platform services for analytics, reporting, or other data-intensive use cases

  • Experience with data engineering technologies and patterns such as ETL/ELT pipelines, batch or streaming processing, orchestration, event-driven systems, or message queues

  • Experience working with large datasets, analytical data stores, warehouses, lakehouse architectures, or object storage

  • Strong SQL skills, including query optimization and schema design for data-intensive applications

  • Experience with AWS and modern cloud infrastructure, including containers and infrastructure as code

  • Experience with data contracts, schemas, metadata, or governed data-access patterns
