Description

Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world's largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

AI and stablecoins have brought upon a renaissance of innovation in the internet economy. Products like the Link AI Wallet and stablecoin cross border payments are signs of a rapid transformation in the way people pay. Underpinning this new technology is access to the same network of banks and financial institutions that consumers and businesses have relied on for decades. Now more than ever, bank accounts need to transform into powerful tools to unlock this new age of commerce.

The Financial Connections team is building the connective tissue between banks and the internet economy. We’re building a platform to make ergonomic, portable access to banking data seamlessly and securely available to consumers and businesses around the world. Today, we power consumer experiences like Link Instant Bank Payments and merchant experiences like Stripe Capital. We’re on a mission to help consumers do more with their bank accounts, and we’d love for you to be a part of our story.

What you'll do

Integration Reliability Engineers (IREs) are a critical component of the organization's success. We sit at the intersection of product engineers, financial partners, and AI systems, connecting them to ensure that nothing is lost in translation and that the systems underpinning Stripe’s open banking ecosystem remain reliable at scale.

Operate, maintain, and expand banking integrations

  • Become a domain expert in open banking, financial data access, and data aggregation—the systems, the partners, and the failure modes
  • Own integration health end-to-end: triage degradations, diagnose root causes, coordinate with financial partners, and drive resolution with urgency
  • Handle technical inquiries from internal Stripe teams and external partners, often requiring deep investigation and targeted code or configuration changes
  • Build and launch new financial partner integrations using agentic tooling
  • Conduct complex data analysis to investigate product performance, scope partner requirements, and surface reliability insights

Build agentic systems and automation

  • Design, build, and ship end-to-end software systems that streamline and automate high-volume operational tasks
  • Operate as a Human-in-the-Loop reviewer for LLM-based agentic processes that carry meaningful risk, applying your domain expertise where automation alone isn't sufficient
  • Identify inefficient or manual processes and eliminate them through AI-powered automation, code changes, or driving complex process improvements across Stripe

Partner and scale

  • Serve as a technical point of contact for financial partners—troubleshooting issues, aligning on product usage, and managing relationships with clear communication
  • Provide authoritative technical context to cross-functional partners including product, partnerships, compliance, and legal
  • Design and improve anomaly detection systems and observability tooling to ensure data flowing through partner and internal systems is reliable and correct

Who you are

We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

TechOps IRE roles combine software engineering, data analysis, AI systems development, and cross-functional partner management. The ideal candidate brings experience across technical systems, data investigation, and complex project ownership. They find genuine satisfaction in making things run reliably at scale through both human judgment and intelligent automation.

Particularly successful candidates have technical backgrounds and/or experience in software engineering and adjacent disciplines where understanding and maintaining complex software systems involves regularly reading and writing code.

Minimum requirements

  • Strong technical background, including 2+ years of experience designing, building, and operating software systems
  • Highly fluent with developer tooling (e.g. version control, CI/CD, real-time observability metrics and logs) and an ability to make well-scoped code changes in a large codebase
  • Ability to develop a deep understanding of complex systems through reading and writing code, studying documentation and partner API specifications, running debugging tools, reading logs, querying raw data, and asking precise questions of domain experts
  • Experience building with AI and LLM tooling with established clear outcomes. You don't need experience with any specific framework, but you should be able to pick up new tools quickly and think clearly about where automation adds value versus where human judgment is required
  • Strong SQL skills and proficiency navigating a variety of data systems to diagnose and scope issues
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to frame messages appropriately for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • An instinct to build solutions that increase the leverage of the people around you—not just to solve the problem in front of you, but to eliminate the class of problem

Preferred qualifications

  • Knowledge of and experience with payment technologies, open banking, and financial data ecosystems
  • Experience designing or operating agentic or LLM-powered workflows in a production environment
  • Proficiency with Presto, Splunk, or similar data querying and log analysis tools
  • Experience managing technical relationships with external partners or vendors
